Cigarette Man

This is gonna sound dumb, I know, but I really have no clue how to shade this picture properly. Since the deadline is well passed anyway, I might as well post it as-is and hope I've done a decent job with the lines, at least.

To compensate for the lack of shading, I think it's actually a fairly decent scan! Always something.

Well, I've seen and commented on this before, but here goes anyway!

As you said, there's more that could be done on it. But it's nice anyway. Some parts are a bit sloppy, like just drawing some lines to illustrate ribs.

I like the eye especially, but maybe that's just because I tried to give you advice on it :P Although you seem to have worked more on since I saw it the last time.

I shall be honest. The only thing I like about this picture is the aesthetic.

What bothers me the most is that it isn't proportionate. At first i thought that it was just the head that's to big, but no, that is not the case.

The axle joint is too close to the neck.

To see on a real photo where the light and shadows are isn't easy, so what you can do to make it easier for you is to look at drawings instead. I learned a lot when I used to draw the X-men. For example.

Once again, the aesthetic rocks. =)

Yeah, the proportions are out of place, unfortunately, because the face and head is absolutely smashingly cool and well done. I suggest, as NF says, to look at some, for example, comics, where shadows are simpler than in real-life sketching.

Wait... with NF I meant Nightflyer, not Nefandus...

Mm, I'm not surprised that the proportions are off-whack. The only reference picture I had was like an inch tall. Oh well, there'll be more opportunities; I fully well admit that this one is rather sloppily done, like Björn says.
