Then it's time for a new challenge. I've missed this thing terribly!

The challenge of August is to draw a group of people interacting with each other. People dancing or playing together, I want the people in the picture to react to one another. A group is of course 3 or more...

This will be easy for most of you, but I promised to start of easy ^_~ Have fun guys.

Scary teeth

Haha! I post first!

Too lazy to draw full pictures, so I settled with faces. To limit myself some I decided to only used real-life references, (forcing my roomies to make faces at me all day long) thus getting "realistic" pics. (But these aren't real portraits, I just referenced wrinkles and stuff.) Bah, scanners don't like pencil drawings but shadows proved invaluable, so no inking this time.

Challenge of April

Alright, finally my turn! How I have been waiting to issue this challenge – so long that I’ve come up with fifteen other challenges as well, but oh well. Later, later…

This is possibly a rather sadistic one, but I think it also will be a very good exercise for all of us. What I want you to do is draw a face (or several) that conveys as much emotion as possible. I want bottomless, frothing rage, boundless joy, soul-tearing sorrow, mindless terror or any other, as long as it’s as intense at it possibly can get. This is something that I have found lacking in many of our pictures – which is in no way surprising since it is very difficult even for one who usually prioritizes it such as myself. Da-Ryun, I’m especially interested in how you handle it, because I’ve mentioned it to you before when criticizing your pictures, and now you’re forced to do it. Bwahahaha! >:D

So there will be no slack jaws or slightly furrowed brows, no casual gritting of teeth or a mere superior smirk. Push it as far as possible! Continuously ask yourself “Can he/she be more angry/sad/happy/scared? Can I raise the eyebrows/open the mouth wider/make the eyes bug out even more without making it unfeasible?” Also, make sure the emotion is one that actually can be intensely expressed, i.e. don’t pick “smug” and make the smirk extra wide. I want facial contortions, deep creases, teeth (preferably with gums showing as well), the whole package. Be. Sure. To. Make. It. As. Intense. As. Possible.

The reason I’m ranting about this so much is to make sure that you really push your limits on this one. This is more than what you usually do. I’ll take our BBEGs as example: if you look at them, the only one that expresses anything more than a menacing glower is mine and, to some extent, Rikard’s. Just fine for that particular challenge, but it’s gotta be some heavy-duty glowering for it to pass this challenge. Like, Clint Eastwood³ intense. Superman heat-vision intense. At least.

So choose an emotion, stand in front of a mirror and do it. Then do it even more. Then hurt your face trying to do it even more. Take a photo of that last one. That’s the least emotion your picture is allowed to convey. I’ll put the deadline of this challenge at the end of May - at the latest - because (1) we’ll probably need it, and (2) revision period starts for me next week.

Again I'm sorry for the late post... I planned things a little of. I also must add that this is a really crappy scan -_-' I think I lost almost 50% of the shadows...

Vulnerability

Sorry about the delay. This was a bit rushed, but I'm surprisingly happy with it. This was clearly the hardest challenge so far, and I don't know if a closeup of an *armpit* is valid enough, but I really couldn't come up with anything better since I decided to not do feet-fetish stuff. ^^

I was going to crop the pic closer around the actual target, but it was so small already that it looks better like this.

Cigarette Man

This is gonna sound dumb, I know, but I really have no clue how to shade this picture properly. Since the deadline is well passed anyway, I might as well post it as-is and hope I've done a decent job with the lines, at least.

To compensate for the lack of shading, I think it's actually a fairly decent scan! Always something.

Delicious Feet

Crooked scan here as well, but oh well.

Sorry for the delay, but I wanted the picture to be really, really good before I posted it. And those are some delicious feet, amirite?

(Lotsa reference picturing for this one, but I'm pretty sure we all took some shortcuts on this challenge, eh?)

Challenge of Mars.

Gotta start with an apology for the late post. I have had a hell lotta' schoolwork lately. Well. The challenge of this month is to draw a closeup of a bodypart. Any would be of interest, but it will get as advanced as you make it. If you want to be boring and draw a completely normal shoulder from behind, so fine. You can also draw a belly in the middle of a backflip in an extreme angle, or what about a hand playing the violin?

The deadline for this should probably be about April the first.

Kitchen Soldiers

***ing finally! So sorry that it has taken such a long time to post this.

I'm not very content with this picture (perhaps I subconsicously delayed my posting :/ ). I felt it was a fun concept with the child-play angle on the whole uniform theme, but the picture feels bare and lifeless to me, something I tried to rectify with a haphazard background (and see that conveniently placed cereal box in front of the boy's foot? Not an accident).

Anyway, sorry for keeping you waiting like this and delaying a new challenge. Moving along...

There we go, only exactly 1 week late. Apologies, I had some scanner troubles which apparently still persist. Damn this quality.

Awright, I spent over 9000 hours in paint doing this. Praise me!

The Next Challenge

I hereby issue the next challenge, to be finished by the 1st of March:

Draw a man and a woman in identical uniforms, and make sure we can tell which is which. I'll leave it up to you to interpret "identical" and "uniform", say, if you give either gender more cleavage than the other or if you make military uniforms or some other variant, but the important thing is the difference should lie in the characters, not in how they're dressed.

I don't really care if people post them on exactly the 1st, it was just a nice round number. But if you still think we should keep the "post as close to DL as possible"; by all means.

I guess that's all I have to say. This was a short post.

Okay, someone decided it's my turn with the drawing challenge, I don't know who, but fine. I find this decision-making difficult. Well. My challenge will be as follows: I want you to draw a BBEG in some sort of throne or podium or other position of power, that's open for interpretation. Don't know what a BBEG is? Shame on you. Big Bad Evil Guy, of course.

I dispute the Nightflyer's statement of keeping the blog simple. It would be fun to be responsible for its appearance every now and then, maybe while you decide the challenge? Don't have to change it if you don't want, pimp it if you do want to. No?

I guess there should be a time limit. Two weeks from now? So the tenth of february all pics should be posted. I hope everyone has a scanner. Eat me out if that came too soon. And alert all drawers that the bureau of art has initiated its sequence!

Beginning

Soo, Da-Ryun thought that we should fix another blog for our drawing circle, and here it is. All ready to be used. I think it should stay in this simple form... Maybe the template will be changed if it can't handle pictures well.
